Pit

Pit makes for an effective waste management solution plus the cost is minimal. It is called the Nader compost system, named after the Indian farmer who developed this system.

What you need to do is dig a ventilated pit and line it with soiled bricks. Place all the agricultural waste inside it with a layer of dung slurry and a layer of soil to top it up. You can see the waste convert into compost with control over the methane gas output over a period of 80 days.

Reuse

Animal waste does cause significant odor issues and reuse is another way of dealing with the waste. The recommended way is to stockpile and reuse it as fertilizer on crops and pastures. Spreading it as quickly as possible is also recommended as both stockpiling and spreading the waste would prevent flies.

You might know from experience that too many flies can not only agitate your livestock but also spread disease so keep it clean and healthy by reusing.

Pen Density

Pen density not only plays a role in waste management but also keeping your livestock safe. There are certain regulations laid by relevant industries to avoid overflow of effluent, so make sure that you comply with the rules. Believe it or not, it does make for easy concrete cleaning when necessary. Waste overflow in dairy sheds can cause problems for waterways and that is why it is also against the law.

Owning and operating a farm is a big responsibility and practicing good waste management is included in it. By practicing waste management you can not only keep your space clean, maintain healthy livestock but also earn a few bucks by creating your own compost.
