This heart-breaking photo was taken at the Kawell Equine Hospital in Buenos Aires, where they help rehabilitate adult horses and take care of new borns.
The foal in the photo is one of about 50 newborn foals that are admitted each year with critical illnesses. The staff allow its mother to visit, and give the foal the soft bedding and creature comforts that help make its stay bearable.
What happened to the foal?
The foal in the photo recovered from its health difficulties – with its mother there every step of the way.

Below is a photograph of a few members of the team responsible for bringing this gorgeous little foal back to health.
