Self-Care: The practice of taking action to preserve or improve one’s health.
In the past, we have explored the alarming rate of suicides across Australia and particular, how the farming community have been affected. This month, we’ll further explore Mental Health and how you can put self-care into practice!
Why would I need a self-care plan?
In Australia, there are approximately 65,000 recorded suicide attempts each year. Suicide is the leading cause of death among Men aged 15–44. We are affected individually by suicide but as a community, we need to strive to reduce the suicide rate and begin to not only support those around us but to also look after ourselves.
How to self-care
We often tend to think about self-care in terms of taking a holiday or a maybe a massage but self-care is something that we can practice everyday, anywhere. It is about making sure that you know what activities you can perform to relieve stress or distress. It can be as simple as watching TV, listening to music or gardening.
After a long day at work, take time to relax and de-stress. Allowing yourself a moment of calm and clarity can go a long way to supporting yourself and ensuring a healthy mentality.
Take Care.
